Project

The Hypatia project was created to address the digital gender gap, a critical issue often overlooked in public policies and traditional digital literacy programs. The project focuses on a frequently invisible and marginalized group: housemakers, women engaged in unpaid caregiving work due to family responsibilities. These women not only face institutional and social discrimination but are also particularly vulnerable to various forms of online violence, including cyberbullying, hate speech, body shaming, sextortion, and revenge porn.

In today’s increasingly digitalized world, access to technology is both an opportunity and a risk. While digital tools can empower women by providing new opportunities for education, employment, and social engagement, a lack of digital literacy can leave them exposed to serious online threats.

To bridge this gap, Hypatia is developing an innovative digital literacy and female empowerment curriculum. The project aims to equip women with practical skills to navigate digital technologies safely and consciously, while also addressing the challenges of gender-based online violence.

Operating primarily in Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, and Malta (regions with lower socio-economic development and persistent digital inequalities) Hypatia goes beyond simply teaching digital tools. It fosters critical awareness of their impact on daily life, empowering women with strategies to counteract online threats and transform the digital world into a tool for personal and professional growth.
